Being a School on Pilgrimage
One of the great blessings of being a Catholic school is the fact that we are automatically part of a worldwide reality that spans the entire globe. A young man who regained his sight at Lourdes back in the 20th century noted as he saw for the first time, “Dad, everyone is here”. We do not have to try to be diverse because we already are universal, just walk into a Catholic Church in a major city any Sunday.
One great opportunity that we have during this Jubilee Year is to make pilgrimages which is something that the Holy See and the Pope’s recent letter on the Jubilee encourages to do. We have the blessing to be able to visit pilgrimage sites both in our local areas as well as the Universal pilgrim sites such as the Holy Land, Rome, and other major shrines throughout the world.
Pilgrimages allow us to experience the concrete historical reality of the faith: that the Saints are real people, who lived real and virtuous lives. It helps students to see that the teachings that they learn are embodied in real people who transformed the world by their holiness of life, and it is possible for them to do the same.
